Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born in Lynn located in Massachusetts. The parents of her were Lithuanian Jewish Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. Her father's death in the role of a carnival barker when Ruth was just a young girl She was required to provide for the family by working as a cook and server. Ruth was a student and grew up poor in Boston Massachusetts in the tenement district. She quit school in just two short years to pursue acting. This was not an easy path to pursue. Although she got an opportunity as a hat check girl in New York posing as a still for a mystery magazine however, there were no theatre opportunities that came her way. Then in NYC, she volunteered at a bar, as an entry-point girl, before quitting and moving back to Boston. In Boston, she worked to make enough money with her ushering duties throughout the day, and at night performing in the New England Repertory Company, the first job she had that was steady. She has also completed her studies at Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she was a drama student.
